Leicester City Football Club

King Power Stadium

The brief:

  • Plan and deliver a visual communications solution to enhance match coverage and content for LCFC fans, while giving LCFC the opportunity to drive revenue through business advertising opportunities
  • Reach all corners of the 105 x 68m, 32,000 capacity stadium using giant digital displays
  • Manage all aspects of the product, acting as project manager and coordinator to ensure seamless installation and implementation.

The solution:

Concept Group planned, designed and installed two 19.5 metre-wide, five-metre high, high-res screens, situated at each goal 80ft above the pitch – broadcasting live matches, scores and high-resolution replays.

Provided a complete turnkey product – with the in-house team delivering a coordinated service across all aspects, encompassing structural engineering design, structural steelwork, LED display technology, back-end control systems and full installation and commissioning.

Worked to overcome the difficulties presented by installing in a working football stadium – securing contractors to work on a four-metre area either side of the pitch, ensuring minimal disruption to LCFC.

The results:

The digital displays made their official debut at LCFC’s Premier League showdown against Everton on 6 October. Screens engage fans on a new scale, providing an immersive match experience which gained an overwhelmingly positive fan response on Twitter.

“In other news … the new big screens and graphics are a thing of beauty #lcfc #LEIEVE” @Nigelrpage

“Love the new screens @LCFC. Great to see live footage and replays – really professional” @sairah_butt

“These new screens at #lcfc are actually better quality than the game before your eyes. Great goal by the way” @ryanmurrant

Mags Mernagh, Director of Estates and Infrastructure at Leicester City Football Club commented:

“With their track record and understanding of the LCFC brief, we knew Concept Group would deliver a seamless project, making sure the technology suited the stadium’s different functions. Whether it’s football or large-scale events, we’re confident that the displays will further add to our offer and continue to provide memorable experiences for all our visitors.”

The displays have created a new revenue stream for Leicester City Football Club, as businesses can now pay for a range of match-day and non-match event advertising opportunities at the 32,000-capacity stadium.
